JENNIFER BRADSHAW-SCOTT

Small connections.
A lasting difference.

Long before writing The Old Oak Tree, Jennifer Bradshaw-Scott spent 26 years working as a tutor with profoundly Deaf children. She often created her own learning materials, taking care to offer children something that suited their age, interests and way of understanding the world.

Jennifer knows how much the right help can matter. At nine, she struggled with reading until a teacher helped her find her confidence. Books became a lasting part of her life, and she has rarely been without one since.

Writing a children’s book was something she had wanted to do for many years. In The Old Oak Tree, she brings together her love of nature and family through the story of a much-loved tree, the lives it touches and what happens when it is time to say goodbye. The book is dedicated to her granddaughters, Sophia and Isabelle Scott.

AND THE NEXT CHAPTER?

More ways to enjoy
a story together.

Her work with Deaf children also has a place in what comes next. Jennifer is developing a visual storytelling edition of the same story, incorporating illustrated British Sign Language vocabulary, alongside a companion BSL activity book.

Both grow from her wish to give children more ways to enjoy a story, explore an idea and take part.
